Whilst most of us just whip this around like its some aromatic herb to make our dinners impressively yummy and tasty they actually have some health benefits.
There are actually 35 different types of basil! I know right! I saw one at my local bunnings and it did and is sitting rather miserably hanging on for dear life in the back garden. Oh you’re supposed to water them Um who knew?
Anyway back to the health stuff. Ok Holy basil is the most researched of all the basils and six different essential oils have been identified in holy basil within its seeds, roots, leaves and stems. It has a scientific name dare you to say it out loud – Ocimum sanctum L. or Ocimum tenuiflorum L., yup I wont remember that either so basil it remains. It is known for its inflammatory, antibacterial and powerful adaptogen which means it helps the body to respond to stress and fight disease. India consider it a sacred herb.

Basil has antioxidant rich volatile oils which are considered hydrophobic meaning they don’t dissolve in water and are small enough to travel through the air and the pores of our skin. the oil in basil is actually what help the plant defend itself from predators theres a little fact im sure youll take away with you and treasure.
So apparently we have neurotransmitters that regulate the hormones responsible for making us happy and energetic. And the benefits of basil helps with depression and anxiety because basil it considered an antidepressant by some since it positively impact brain function within the adrenal cortex. I know so summary is eat it to make you happy.
Basil is also an anti inflammatory food so it can help the muscles that control blood vessel function to contract and relax, promoting good blood pressure. Helps with clumping of blood platelets that can form clots within arteries and cause cardiac arrests.
Detox – um ok I know this word is overused however It helps with the liver (was that short enough for you haha)
There are so many benefits of Basil lets summarize and just say that you should be throwing this green stuff on everything and anything you eat.
